Honestly, sometimes I get really fed up of my subconscious - it's like it's got a mind of its own.

Who am I?

I have been a graphic designer for many years. But I’d wanted to study hypnotherapy for about 18 years before I took the leap. I knew there were people in my life, past and present, who could benefit from hypnotherapy. I didn’t know much about the subject,  but I knew there was something... something special. How right I was.

Many of the ideas people have about hypnosis come from TV, films, and stage performances. These portrayals often suggest that someone can be hypnotised instantly with the snap of a finger, trapped in a trance forever, or forced to do things against their will. In reality, these are myths.

Hypnosis is simply a natural state of deep relaxation combined with focused attention.

In fact, we all experience hypnotic or trance-states several times a day. For example, you might become so absorbed in a television programme that you lose awareness of what’s happening around you, feeling almost as though you’re part of the story. Or you might walk a familiar route and arrive at your destination without remembering every turn you made along the way. In these moments, your mind is focused and relaxed - much like in hypnosis.

During hypnosis, you enter a deeply relaxed state that feels calm, comfortable, and often very enjoyable. Importantly, you remain fully in control the entire time. You are always aware and capable of ending the session whenever you choose. Most people simply prefer to stay in that relaxed state because it feels so good.

The hypnotic state is actually a form of self-hypnosis. The hypnotherapist’s role is simply to guide you, offering suggestions that support the changes you want to make. A helpful way to think of it is like driving a car; you are in control of the vehicle, while the hypnotherapist helps by reading the map and suggesting possible directions.

Once clients reach this relaxed state, hypnotherapy can help them build confidence, release unhelpful patterns, and develop practical strategies for moving forward. My aim is for every client to feel safe, supported and to leave each session feeling relaxed, empowered, and equipped with tools they can use in everyday life.
